Eagles

Eagles

Eagle is a common name for many raptors with large heavy powerful hooked beaks, strong legs with large talons, and exceptionally powerful eyes that allow them find prey from especially long distance. Eagles can see at least 3 times better than a human. Most eagles are large birds with wide long wings and powerful flight. The larger and more powerful of eagles are apex predators with no natural enemies. Only a few species vultures are bigger.

The type of prey and hunting methods varies one eagle species to another. The Bald Eagle in North America lives around large bodies of water. They mostly eat the fish it snatches from the water surface with its talons. But when fish are in short supply they are opportunist that will eat carrion. Scavenge from garbage dumps. Smaller animals like raccoons, rabbits or waterfowl they come across will be taken. Eagles are powerful enough to seize prey without having to land like other bird of prey. The prey is often carried to a branch or back to the nest to be torn apart then eaten. Golden Eagles live in the Northern Hemisphere from Europe to North America, and some parts of African continent. They use speed and particularly powerful talons to take assortment of different prey from squirrels and reptiles to unprotected fawns. They will also eat carrion when live prey is in short supply.
