Biosphere
The
biosphere is the places on Earth were plants, animals, and one-celled organisms
live. Most life on Earth is in a zone 10 feet below the ground to 100 feet
above it. In the oceans top 600 feet is where most of the life is found because
of the direct influence of the sun. At the bottom of the sea hydrothermal vents
called black smokers support a complex food chain using chemicals alone. Unlike
all other life on Earth they live independent of any solar energy and might
exist on other planets and moons in the solar system. Simple single cell life
has also been found in even more extreme environments. The biosphere is the sum
all living organisms of Earth.
